Valentine's Mantel

Happy Heart Day. Who doesn't love to be told they are loved and cherished? While I agree the retail world over rates heart day, A true valentine is one that is noticed on a daily basis. With that being said, I decided to deorate my mantel this year for Valentine's Day. This is a first for me. I added touches of blue so it wasn't such a statement compared to the rest of my home. I can't ever seem to get a picture of my mantel that's straight (see below) unless using an tripod...geez

I wrapped my wreath with red mesh and then added a few oranaments I picked up at Michael's.

DIY Trough

I have been browsing Pinterest looking for ideas. I came across this trough that was built from a broken down picket fence. So, I decide I would love to re-create my own trough for a table scape. Here below is a picture of what Pottery Barn has to offer this season.

I like it, but wanted something with more edge on it. This is what I started with.

 As you can see the red in this wood, that means I got it from the scrap pile at Home Depot. It cost me $6 whole dollars to make this project from start to finish. The hardware was the most expensive at $1.27 a piece. I had the stain on hand from another project my husband was working on last year.

Once I finished with the stain, I used a sand paper buffer and buffed the shine off. I also beat it with a hammer for a rough look. I'm linking up with;

I have been cooped up all weekend with a terrible rash. I have been high on benedryl and antihistamines. I finally decided to go to the urgent care today. The doctor says I have poison ivy...  What??? How in the world did I contract that? I haven't been spending any time outside or in the woods. So, I was bored and decided to bake. I wanted some puffy chocolate chip cookies. They turned out great! Taste great too!

We celebrated my step daughter's birthday Thursday evening. I threw together a little party just to say "Happy 21 Birthday Olivia." We celebrated with akward singing, cake and donuts!
