Our Weekend Get Away

My husband and I needed some quality time together and decided to drive up to Beaufort, SC for the weekend. He retired from the Marine Corps back in 2007 and was familiar with this area, as he went to boot camp on Parris Island back in 1987.

We researched quaint places to stay and came across this wonderful bed and breakfast. Neither of us had ever experienced a bed and breakfast at this point. It was the most wonderful experience. Quaint and cozy, personal and pleasing.

Two Suns Inn, Bed and Breakfast is where we chose to stay.

This is the view from our porch at the Inn.

We drove downtown and parked. We visited all the antique and coffee shops. We enjoyed really good, fresh seafood.

My favorite place was this little quaint coffee shop right on the water.

We also visited the Carolina Cherry Company. It had everything you could have wanted from pies, cobblers, cider and anything canned. We came home with strawberry jam, sweet potato butter, onion relish, bread and butter pickles and caramalized peacans.

We relaxed by the water and enjoyed the swings and just had a wonderful time.

Chalk Paint

My first experience with chalk paint has been one that was pretty painless. I decided after installing hard wood floors in home, my old buffet needed some color so that it wouldn't blend in. I wanted to bring out the details and show it off. I used Annie Sloan "pure white" chalk paint. No need to sand or prime and that's why I mentioned it's painless. Once I painted it, I decided to distress it to make it look old. I love the old rustic look. I used a 60 grit sand paper piece and just brushed it back and forth until I got the look I wanted. I'm pretty happy with the results.

It's official my baby is 16! I'm so honored to be his mother and so proud of the young man he has become. We celebrated with a little party this weekend in honor of his milestone!

I made this simple cake and added gumballs to bring in some color.

I stayed with a circus theme. Candy, peanuts and popcorn.
